A lean cut of steak goes better with a wine that contains less tannins so for example you could select a Merlot or a Chianti or Pinot Noir.

A very spicy or seasoned meat should be paired with a red wine such as Syrah or Cabernet France. Spicy dishes such as you find with some Indian and Asian foods can be paired with Gewürztraminers, Vouvrays and Rieslings. These three wines work well to slightly diminish the spicy taste of foods such as Thai salads.
